About

What is this?

Monsterencyclopedia.com strives to show the monsters and cryptids of different cultures around the world, as well as the relations between these stories by way of shared themes and attributes. The monsters on this website are not from any literature with a clear author, such as H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulu. This website will not be updated until summer 2019 (see “IB Personal Project” below).

What is a monster?

The word monster is based directly on the Latin word monstrum, meaning abnormal shape. Monsters are most often horribly deformed creatures or humans, but can sometimes be much different. In the widest possible terms, a monster is a frightening or strange imaginary creature.

IB Personal Project

This website was created as a product to show learning in the field of world folklore for the International Baccalaureate program. Called the Personal Project, it asks students to explore a topic of interest through one of several global lenses. To allow time for grading, the website will not be updated from the end of December 2018 to early Summer 2019.
